Dear Colleague,

Warm autumn greetings from the East of England.

As this is purely a personal issue I have requested the list owner to post the message if the owner considers it appropriate. If you are not interested please do not read further and delete the mail.

Many of you kindly wrote to the Home Office in 2002 in support of my move to migrate to the UK under the highly skilled migrant programme. My original request is available @

http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A2=ind02&L=PUBLIC-HEALTH&P=R21658&I=-3

I migrated to the UK with the written commitment from the Home Office that after four years of productive employment we would be eligible to apply for settled status. I should have received my settled status in August 2006. The Home office changed the period required for settled status from 4 to 5 years and applied it retrospectively to me, just a few months before I would have got settled status under the original rule under which I took up the scheme. .

The postponement of this important mile stone has caused us a lot of financial hardship, uncertainty and shaken my faith in the system. As we do not have settled status, in this September when my son started University studies we had to pay overseas fee which is four times higher than the home fee and he is not eligible for student loan etc. We just bought a house investing all our life savings but God forbid if some thing happens to me before we get settled status my family had to leave the country although we migrated here in 2002 when the required period for settlement was four years.

The reason I am writing to you is that I have been fighting a loosing battle with the Home Office regarding the retrospective application of the rule and its adverse impact on our family. It is likely that some of you who provided letters of support might possibly be contacted. I do not have the list of colleagues who supported me in 2002. Hence after a lot of consideration and with great reluctance I have approached the list owner to post this message. If at all you are contacted please respond as you feel appropriate. My personal plight is highlighted at http://www.vbsi.org.uk/uploads/File/Poster3.ppt

Apologies for bothering you with my problems, especially many of you to whom this is irrelevant. As I had no other way of contacting those colleagues who provided me with letters of support in 2002, I have decided to approach the list owner for help.

Warm regards & very best wishes,

Badri

	Dear List owner,

A very good evening and warm greetings.

If it is appropriate could you please post this enclosed message with the

title "Personal request from a colleague" in the body of the email with your

covering note? I do not want to post this myself as this is a personal issue

but I had to reach list members who supported me in 2002. I hope the

	enclosed message is self explanatory.

If you need any information please email or call me on 07905 958942

Many thanks for your kind consideration.

warm regards & very best wishes,

	Badri
