Senior Health Services Researcher
Secondment/Fixed Term until August 2009
Salary scales: £35,232 - £42,278 (AfC Band 8a)

As a Senior Health Services Researcher, you will have developed advanced
skills in identifying and critically appraising relevant data from both
quantitative and qualitative scientific literature, helping to design and
perform reviews of these data, co-ordinate the use of surveys, interpreting
results and models developed in health technology assessments. You will
also contribute to the development of research methodologies, the
preparation of Evidence Notes and Best Practice Statements within NHS QIS
and the wider NHS context.
It is envisaged that you will have a first degree in numerate or biomedical
discipline and a relevant postgraduate degree, supported by extensive
experience in critical appraisal, quantitative research methodology, and
appropriate IT skills. Effective people skills are required to line manage
two Health Services Researchers and work with a range of internal and
external partners.

Location: Glasgow*
Are you an experienced Health Services Researcher who enjoys working with
information scientists and other staff to collect relevant literature and
assess the clinical effectiveness of technologies under evaluation? Then
NHS QIS is looking to apply your research skills to assist in scientific
work involved in preparing Health Technology Assessments, Best Practice
Statements and contribute to the development of methodologies for the use
of qualitative research evidence.
You are most likely to have a degree in health or social sciences and
specific experience in health services research methods including critical
appraisal techniques. Experience of the design and analysis of qualitative
research studies is essential and experience of questionnaire surveys,
clinical trials and observational studies would be desirable.
