Brian suggested I might post something to the list. I have read with
some interest the postings until 3rd Nov and apologise for not catching
up but I do have a few comments to make.
First an introduction. I lead two small higher edcuataion programmes for
teaching assistants (in a north-west England newly designated
university) who undertake practitoner inquiry as part of the programme,
some using mainly reflective diary and narrative methods for their
action research. I am also conducting research into the use of e-forums
to support the development of critical reflection amongst undergraduates
and this is what I will mainly comment on in relation to some of
Brians's questions about standards. I am not ingnoring other postings
and you will note that my responses will resonate with features from

I formulate questions on the basis of something that I notice in my work
e.g. I noticed that some students e-forum postings were becoming quite
critically reflective in nature and wondered whether I could set up a
situation in which I could explore whether the forums provided a
particular type of opportunity t
