I'm glad it arrived, but sad about its state. I did TRY to ask for a
better covering but they (the China Postal service) are the only game
in town, so I had to go along with what they supplied. Most people
here are lovely in the service area, but for some reason those young
ladies down there are a grumpy and unhappy lot. My lack of Chinese
didn't help communicate.
Apropos of nothing, I bought a toy car for my grandson for his
birthday. It cost 65 yuan (about ten dollars Australian, about eight
dollars American - I don't know the Canadian equivalent). They wanted
345 yuan to send it to Oz! I sent it surface mail for 113 - but it
will take a month to get there. Bastards. Mailing out of here to
anywhere else on this planet is too expensive. And you can't trust it:
we have lost a cardboard box of books and papers mailed from Australia
to here before we set out. It never arrived. And it has a couple of
really goods books in it, too! plus teaching aids and ideas. Bastards.
Thieves, rogues and vagabonds.
Now that I've got that off my chest, just read my poems when you can.
I was anxious about its arrival, not its speed. So, don't put yourself
out -
Your China connection -
Bai Bin
NB: I am proud to say my Chinese name includes the family name of Li
Bai, oft times known as Li Po in the West.
