A Century of Greek Poetry 1900-2000: Bilingual Edition (Hardcover)

This is the modern Greek poetry anthology to have: Greek poets from
Cavafy to the generation of the 1960s, with texts in Greek and facing
English versions by well known translators which range from good to
excellent. Its comprehensiveness really makes it almost two
anthologies in one: all the the standard big names you'd expect are
represented by the poems you'd expect, making this a good canonical
anthology of those modern Greek poets who are recognized as most
important. But in addition the book includes a number of excellent
poets who may new even to those fairly familiar with modern Greek
poetry. A major discovery for me were the excerpts from a wonderful
prose poem called "The Cake" by Rhea Galanaki (does anyone know
anything about her) which is about a woman turning into a maenad as
she bakes in her kitchen.
The book is huge and quite expensive and apparently available only in
hardbound. I got my copy in Greece, but a check of amazon.com (US)
shows it's available there.
Disclaimer: I have no financial interest blah blah blah, am only a
satisfied yada yada yada ...
