It's how you count in ordinals.
{} is the empty set, or 0.
{{}} is {0}, or 1
{{}, {{}}} is {0, 1}, or 2
{{}, {{}}, {{}, {{}}}} is {0, 1, 2}, or 3
and so on.
This is one form of what Badiou calls "multiple composition of the
void" - a way for nothing to transpire.
Poetry makes the Nothing happen.
