Thanks Patrick - the same thing also happened to some of my childhood toys/
games that lived at my dad's house. He thought once I hit 13 I wouldn't
want them anymore whereas I thought I'd give them to my future children!
Alas they were victim to the garage sale and I never saw them again...

Rock Candy
The recipe was buried
in the "Science for Food"
book Mrs. Funk lent me
& never got back
2 parts white sugar
1 part water
a toothpick and
a dangling string
As day passes nightwards,
small crystals will crawl
attach to the string
like all the magic in the world
lives in your kitchen.
Concocted and set by the sink,
I forced eyes shut to sleep
so I could waken to find
miracles. In the morning,
I sprang from bed to sink.
It was gone. The glass washed.
Grown crystals dissolved
to nothing by a mom bent
on a clean home
scheduled days
frugal ways
quiet children
To her, wasting sugar
A criminal offence.
