The Agency is seeking a Social Science Advisor to act as a consultant to
the Agency's Microbiological Safety Research Programmes (Research
Requirement no B13R0006) in Research Requirements Document 23, October
2006.
It has been suggested that it may be useful to advertise the post in the
Medical Sociology Online mailing list to target further individuals who may
be interested in this post. Would this be something that you would be able
to assist us with? I have included details of the job, which would be for
10 to 20 days spread throughout the year at the bottom of the email and
would be grateful if you could let me know.
kind regards

Programme Advisor for Social Science aspects of Microbiological Safety
Research and Survey Programmes
The Food Standards Agency published the latest list of requirements for
research needed to support it's work on Thursday 26 October. As part of
the latest research requirement document 23, the Agency is seeking to
appoint a Social Science Advisor to act as a consultant to the Agency's
Microbiological Safety Research Programmes. The successful candidate will
be expected to assist the Division by acting as a programme advisor to
research projects containing elements of the social sciences across the
full range of the Division's microbiological research programmes.
We are seeking a professional with more than 10 years academic experience
in one or more of the social sciences preferably at a senior level.
Applications are sought from individuals with broad and relevant experience
in conducting and reviewing academic social science research and a track
record of successful research project management. The applicant should have
a multi-disciplinary outlook across the social sciences relevant to the
Division's work, including the key issues and different research
methodologies used by social science disciplines. It would be beneficial if
the applicant was familiar with work being funded by the Economic and
Social Research Council (ESRC) and other major funders, as well as an
awareness of social science research undertaken outside universities. The
Programme Advisor will use their scientific expertise to contribute to the
effective development, execution, evaluation and communication of the
research projects.
Applications for this Social Scientist Programme Advisor post should
include a CV along with supporting evidence outlining details of experience
relevant to the specific programme or post. The Agency is keen to hear
from candidates with previous project management experience and an
established networking record. This Programme Advisor post is likely to
require between 2 and 4 weeks work spread throughout the year. Candidates
should state their daily rates of pay on application.
A full copy of the specific research requirement is attached below and the
complete Agency research requirement document is available with the
guidance for applicants on the Agency's website at:
http://www.food.gov.uk/science/researchpolicy/researchfunding/rrd/requirements/rrd23/
Applications for this post should be submitted by 5pm on Friday 12 January
2007 to Helen Prangley ([log in to unmask])
