Mysterious Creatures (Sunday 9pm, ITV1). Asperger Syndrome:- Has this TV
drama caused another suicide attempt?

In some ways I agree with Larry Arnold that this docu-drama has caused great
distress and high anxiety for many Asperger NeuroDiverse(ND's) (Dis)abled
people by the ITV (and BBC too) and all the media in continually
'victimising' disabled people and concentrating on 'bad-behaviours'
(criminalisation), not the 'Creativity' that many ND's have. This
docu-drama, like many others will 'Stigamatise' Aspies and Neurodiverse
people and the public will only want to see the 'media-sensationalising' and
'negative-stereotypes' and they will be left 'brainwashed' with the idea
that all Aspies and ND's are 'out-of-control' and the 'Real-Causes' of
this........
The public will not see that Wendy and William Ainscow and their Aspie
daughter( Lisa) have all been badly let down and failed by those who owed a
duty of care and Society too.
This is where Larry and I will disagree, like Adrian and others within DANDA
and within the disabled peoples', survivors, inclusion and independent
living movements that I fully endorse the 'social model' which explores the
concept of people being disabled by society's barriers and attitudes,
language, environments, structures and 'unmet-needs', not blaming
'the-victim'.
Then highlighting the role of the Organisation(s) and Society in the removal
of those barriers and in creative positive changes and providing the
appropraite environments and resources, support, assistive technologies for
all 'NeuroDiverse' people too is 'Empowerment and Inclusion'.
In illustrating these particular barriers for ND's, then recognising and
accepting 'NeuroDiversity' as a 'Difference', then I believe that Larry and
I would be in full agrrement here, so I don't see why Larry has problems
with the social model.
IMO the 'social-model' empowers 'NeuroDiverse' people and accepts the
'Difference-model', instead of 'Criminalisation', 'Medicalisation' and
reinfocing 'Stigmatisation', as within the docu-drama.
I know too well how 'low-arousal' enviroments and the appropraite support
and assistive technologies are important needs for all ND's/ASD's and if
these needs are met, then we we'll 'STOP' having to watch these negative
'Stigmatising' 'docu-dramas' that reinforces discrimination, victimisation,
harrassment and (self) abuse/harm, suicides and 'incitement of hatred' and
attacks and violence and verbal, psychological, behavioural, emotional and
physical abuse and harm towards all ND's/ASD's and other disabled people too
as I have experienced myself for 44 years now.
Where's all the positive ND's/ASD's and Disabled Peoples' stories gone
within the media?
I would like to hear all your views
