Expenses : expenses reasonably incurred in the performance of Trustee
services.
Role specification
The members of the Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) Board led by the Chairman:
- Ensure that Historic Royal Palaces fulfils its charitable aims as
required by the Royal Charter, its contract with the DCMS and the Charity
Commissioners
- Promote Historic Royal Palaces’ cause in the world and act in its best
interest
- Ensure that high standards of corporate governance, propriety and
financial management operate at Historic Royal Palaces and that there is
effective use of resources
- Appoint and monitor the performance of the Chief Executive.
- Contribute to and formally approve HRP’s overall strategic direction,
the three year rolling Strategic Plan and Annual Operating Plan
- Approve the Annual Review and Accounts
- Formally approve following recommendations by Directors, all major
projects (over £250k including VAT) and all major contracts greater than
£250k per annum
- Monitor provisions for risk, fire, health and safety, security and other
ad hoc important matters and projects as they arise.
Person specification
All HRP Trustees need to:
- Care about Historic Royal Palaces, its cause and fields of interest and
heritage generally
- Engage with people effectively at all levels
- Have credibility within their sphere
- Have the commitment to attend Board and Committee Meetings and other
Trustee events
The HRP Trustee (Cultural/Heritage) needs to:
- Be able to bring top level experience, judgement, support, guidance and
challenge in the heritage/cultural sector - public/not for profit - (i.e.
current or recent experience in one or more of the following; heritage
management; museum/gallery management; the heritage academic world;
involvement in heritage/cultural policy or consultancy
- Be able to give enough additional time flexibly and generously, in
particular in acting as a sounding board for the Chief Executive and other
directors as appropriate
- Good current professional networks in the cultural sector or associated
world and/or the ability to develop them further.
