Dear Colleagues,
On 30 November and 1 December CLS will be holding a 2-day introductory workshop on MCS data management and analysis at the Institute of Education in London. This workshop is aimed at newcomers to Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) data. Day 1 will introduce participants to MCS data management - the morning will include presentations on MCS and the first two surveys (when the cohort was 9 months and three years old); the MCS sample and issues of weights, response, non-response and attrition; and how to access data from the UK Data Archive. In the afternoon computer workshops will cover a range of topics including linking MCS1 and 2 data; recoding variables; deriving new variables; and examining frequencies and percentages. On day 2, the focus will be on analysing MCS data - during the morning CLS researchers will give examples of their work on specific topic areas. Computer workshops will be held in the afternoon and will cover topics which include producing cross tabulations between two variables; examining relationships between variables measured at two points in time; considering how issues of weighting affects results; and comparing analysis for the UK, country and ward level analysis.
Places are strictly limited. There is a non-refundable fee of £100 (£60 for HE students). For further information and to book a place please visit the Economic and Social Data Service website:
