It may be cute, but it's still a research output to oceanographers!
These people spend months on end on cramped and heaving ships in some
desolate corner of the atlantic; a repository seems a good way of
bringing their hard work to wider attention.
That's the problem - I stay at home at a comfy desk and all I have to
show is a repository full of papers about XML and microelectronics.
None of those look very appealing in demonstrations!
