Business Cafe Live - Speaker Profiles
Prue Leith OBE
Prue started a small business supplying lunches for directors' dining rooms
in 1960 and this grew rapidly into Leith's Good Food Limited. By 1995 when
Compass bought the business, Leith's employed over 500 staff and had a
turnover of £15 million. In 1969, Prue started her now world-famous and
Michelin-starred restaurant, Leith's. In 1975 she founded Leith's School of
Food and Wine. A popular newspaper columnist and author, Prue Leith's list
of directorships and chairs is stunning and she has received many honours,
most notably the OBE in 1989 and Veuve Cliquot Business-Woman of the Year
in 1990.
Laura Tenison MBE
Laura Tenison is founder of maternity and children's fashion brand JoJo
Maman Bébé. Laura has organically grown the company from a start-up to a
business with turnover of over £12m and 150 direct employees whilst keeping
the company private. With a database of 1.2 million pregnant and new
mothers, today JoJo is one of the leading maternity, baby & nursery multi-
channel retailers in the UK. The company policy is based on strong codes of
ethical business practice, both in product manufacturing and buying.
Amongst several recent honours, Laura was voted Harpers & Queen
Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005.
Nick Jenkins
Nick Jenkins is CEO of Moonpig.com - Britain's leading customized greetings
card business. The rapid growth of Moonpig into a market leader is a
fascinating case study of how e-commerce can provide entrepreneurs with the
opportunity to take on established brands. Moonpig’s innovative product
range and fantastic customer service make the business a great example to
use with students.
Rachel Bridge
Rachel is Enterprise Editor of the Sunday Times. Over the past few years
she has interviewed hundreds of successful entrepreneurs for her must-read
weekly column, "How I Made It". Her recently published book "My Big Idea"
profiles 30 of Britain's leading new entrepreneurs and is already a
bestseller. In the process Rachel has gained a real insight into what goes
on in the mind of the entrepreneur and has dozens of real life examples to
share showing how to take the plunge - and how not to.
Will Chase
Will is one of Britain's best-known entrepreneurs and is the driving force
behind the spectacular growth of Tyrrells - the award-winning manufacturers
of specialist potato chips. Will has been in the news throughout 2006, most
recently following his battle to remove Tyrrell's products from the shelves
of Tesco. Just one taste of a Tyrrells potato chip is usually enough to
understand the reasons for the fantastic success enjoyed by this niche
brand.
