Invitation to a Discussion Day at the Design Museum, London
13th December 2006 10.15am to 3.30pm
We have pleasure in inviting you to a Discussion Day which we hope will be
of interest to museums or institutions with plastics collections and to
individuals who work in this area.
We aim to explore how a Plastics SSN could help maximise public access to
and enjoyment of museum plastics collections while being beneficial to the
organisations involved. The day will provide a rare opportunity to network
across traditional subject areas and is funded by an MLA Exploratory Subject
Specialist Network Grant.
Confirmed speakers include Jake Kaner, Research Professor at Buckinghamshire
Chilterns University College; Susan Mossman, Head of Content of the Plastics
Gallery planned at the Science Museum; Joyce Palmer, Director of the School
of Design at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth; Deyan Sudjic, Director of
the Design Museum; Gareth Williams, Curator of 20th Century and Contemporary
Furniture at the V&A; and John Whitaker, Curator of Social History at
Wakefield Museum. There will also be speakers from the British Film
Institute and the Plastics Historical Society.
A formal programme is in production and will be available shortly; the day
is structured to encourage discussion between all attendees. It is free and
lunch will be provided.
If you would like further details or to book a place please contact Pam
Langdown, Manager of the Design Collection Museum at the Arts Institute at
Bournemouth
