All
What an interesting debate and here is my sixpence worth.
I accept the arguments of all (seem reasonable to me) and have come up
with a proposal.
The Records Management Society is prepared to set up a Mailtalk account
for government based discussion. This is not a sub for the JISC list
(which will still be my favoured source). Its purpose will be to
promote discussion specific to the .gov arena which does not have wider
benefit. Examples include classification and metadata uses, records
management input into .gov specifics.
However, the account will be open to all but will be moderated to ensure
that the debate is specific to the .gov environment. This will ensure
it remains focused and can still be accessed by anyone, anywhere.
This will enable specific .gov debate to happen, if it fails then we can
use the account as the Mailtalk for the Local Government Group of the
RMS to facilitate access to agenda/minutes of the successful local
government group.
I support a specific group, but would wish to test its value.
I hope that the Account set up will be approved and will go live in the
next few days. The web address for Mailtalk is www.mailtalk.ac.uk if
you search you will find a number of existing regional RMS groups such
as RMS-South Ireland and Scotland. All of which are open and can be
joined. Subject to usage we may set content rules.
Regards
Paul Dodgson
