Thanks Dominic... I thought it had something to do with the weekly switch of
servers and their shut down time.
author.asp is the address of a script - a program running on theauthorsden
server - that retrieves the details for a particular authorin their database
and creates an HTML page based on those details.
The part of the url after the question mark - the "query string" - tellsthe
script which author's details to display - the numeric ID is most likely a
value generated by their database, and associated with yourauthor details.
The deborahrussell url is simply an alias for the first url. There will be
some other script on the webserver that will handle "unknown"urls - that is,
urls that don't directly correspond to some
particular page or script on their server - and redirect them to the
"author.asp"page after looking up the "author's name" part of url in the
database to find out what ID the author with that particular name has.
The reason for having the alias is basically that it's prettier to look at,
and more informative.
