John,
I went from doing all our on-line maths resources using Dreamweaver to being skilled up in Moodle in a couple of hours. Then learned loads more about groups, messaging, assessments etc by self exploration.
I have got members of staff started on creating a course in my 'Champion the workhorse' role in an hour and then helped them when they get stuck. The key is that staff actually are creating rather than just getting training in isolation.
Simon

how long is a piece of string. With the right training I think you can get to grips with most of it in a few hours. Certainly in terms of creating and building courses.

How long is it reckoned to take roughly to become an expert Moodle administrator and course creator?
