This scenario could be misleading, Malcolm. Einstein
first introduced his false postulate of constancy of
the speed of light, deduced miracles (time dilation,
length contraction etc.) from it and became divinity.
Then he secretly replaced the false postulate with the
true postulate of variability of the speed of light
and obtained CORRECT FINAL RESULTS. However
rationality in science was devastated. See

All experiments when honestly interpreted show that
the speed of light is variable. Try, for instance,
Michelson-Morley and Pound-Rebka (not on this forum of
course).
