When we tendered for some, two applied, Harmless and an independent
person (previously employed by Hampshire Museum Service).
We went with Harwells, and found that the training they provided was
well received.
English Heritage were also interested, but unable to provide the
quotation in time.
We think (in the South East) that following our experience with Harmless
- which was funded by Renaissance - that we can 'tweak' the experience.
This was an initial training day, support with writing a plan, a further
training day (with practical experience) and then support with revising
the plan.
The training was provided to all museums going through accreditation at
the time / in the following year (including some small volunteer runs,
medium and large volunteer runs, local authority and salaried-staff
independents).
The 'tweaks' in retrospect would be to take more of the administration
and support 'in house' (employing a part-time person), and to start
engagement a long time before the first training day (six months or so
before).
Please do ask if you need any further details (I can dig out the guy
from Hampshire, who was very highly recommended, for example).
With best wishes,
Pat
(who is thinking of publishing one of those little books "Best excuses
for not attending Emergency Planning Training" Sample: we are all to old
to have an emergency - hence the need for engagement a _long_ time in
advance)
