This clearly was not a 'personal' message:
"Paul et al,
Does anybody know if these wells were fresh-water or saline springs
around which these 'holy' wells were built? Or as Carl-Henrik Berg
notes
were there transformations for one reason or another from existing
wells?"
I thought my message WAS addressed to THE LIST. Certainly Chris
responded appropriately ...to the list! for which thanks.

Dear Chris,
I tend to agree with Jeremy re 'the eels'!
I'm attempting an MA dissertation on the tansitionary role of wells from
'Pagan' to 'Christian' Ireland.
James Rattue remains solid. A book called, 'Crossing the Holy Wells of
Ireland' by Brennenman & Brennenman
<Virginia,1995> is helpful baseline. More recently, 'Fingallian Holy
Wells',
Petra Skyvova <Fingal County Libraries,2005>.
'The Holy Wells of Ireland', Philip Dixon Hardy,<Dublin,London,Edinburgh,
1840> is good on typology and severe in attitude!
The 'Slaine' web-site gives some leads. More ideas if you need them, Paul

Subject: Typology Holy Wells
Dear All,
Is anybody aware of any work done on the typology of holy wells? My search
engine doesn't return any useful results.
All the best
