Higher Education and Sustainable Development in the East Midlands: A
Networking Event
29 November 2006 Rutland Square Hotel, Nottingham* 10am – 4pm
The Higher Education Academy is organising a one-day event for all
those involved (or would like to be involved) in educating for
sustainable development (ESD) at degree level in the East Midlands.
This day is designed to enable exchange of activities, plans, ideas and
case studies between those working on education for sustainable
development within the East Midlands. The programme will consist of
networking sessions and pleanaries. Panel speakers include:
James Lugar and Sarah Bentley of the East Midlands Development Agency
on the wider regional context
Tracy Bhamra of Loughborough University on teaching sustainable
development within higher education
Michael Feury of De Montfort University on the student perspective
Other speakers still to be confirmed.
There is also an opportunity for participants to showcase their work.
There is no charge for attendance at this event and we welcome
participation from all those who have experience of, or are
considering, incorporating ESD into their higher education work – or
incorporating higher education into their ESD work. Statutory agencies,
local authorities, voluntary and community organisations, and those
working within higher education are all invited to express their
interest in attending. In order to ensure a balanced mix of
representation, confirmation of whether a place has been reserved for
you will be sent on receipt of a completed short questionnaire.
However, even if you are not able to attend the event, please do submit
your details via the link below, as another of the goals is to begin
"mapping" the ESD work in the region. Therefore, all responses will be
made available to all respondents. (Completing the questionnaire does
not obligate you to attend the event.)
To register your interest and / or your work, please go to:

Please note: An East Midlands group is putting together a bid for
HEFCE's Leadership, Management and Governance programme. Outcomes and
contacts from the conference will input into the bid.
