Dear All,

As you know, the Higher Education Academy has asked Forum for the
Future to help us "capture" good practice in ESD for a website that
plans to showcase THREE case studies from EACH discipline.

The deadline is September 29th, so time is running short...

If you do practice "Education for Sustainable Development", we would
really appreciate it if you would submit responses to the attached
questionnaire. Alternatively (or additionally), if you know of someone
who might like to have her/his work showcased, please feel free to
forward this on to her/him.

Thank you for any help with this.

Heather Witham
ESD Project Coordinator
HE Academy

Dear All,

Capturing good practice in the integration of sustainability on courses

Background
The Higher Education Academy is exploring education for sustainable
development (ESD) so as to assist those institutions and academic
colleagues who want to make it part of their teaching provision.

Building on the initial findings of previous research, principally the
Dawe et al. report, the Higher Education Academy would like to take the
integration of sustainability further and has commissioned Forum for
the Future, the UK’s leading sustainable development charity*, to carry
out a baseline study with the aim of identifying existing good practice
across all subjects. The end result of this research will be a
summary of the findings which will then be distilled into a web-based
good practice resource for lecturers and HEI’s wanting to develop
sustainability literacy within their curricula.

Request
We would really value finding out if and how you/colleagues incorporate
sustainability into your courses. We are looking to capture the type of
curriculum material and teaching approaches you have developed. We are
also interested in understanding any barriers to or opportunities for,
embedding sustainability into your courses. A short questionnaire has
been designed to aid capture, which is attached, and also available at:
http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/4777.htm. If you would like a bit more
information or examples to help you complete it, do get in touch. We
want to promote the sharing of good practice but if you wish to remain
anonymous then leave the ‘submitted by’ blank.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at
[log in to unmask] (or Simon Smith:
[log in to unmask] or Heather Witham: [log in to unmask] at the
Higher Education Academy,) and please return the questionnaire to Forum
by 29 September.

With best wishes

*Our Leadership for Sustainable Development Masters Programme has led
Forum’s mission for the past 10 years. Other partnerships include the
Sustainability Integration Group (SIGnet), which brings together the
bodies that fund, plan and regulate the post-school education sector.
A range of projects, including the Engineer for the 21st Century
programme and work with professions put Forum at the forefront of
transforming the way the post-school learning and skills sector address
the sustainability challenge.
