Dear Member
Academy of Social Sciences - Northern Ireland meeting
I am writing to invite you to the first meeting of members of the Academy of Social Sciences in Northern Ireland.
The Council of the Academy of Social Sciences has decided to hold a series of regional meetings for Academicians and representatives of its member Learned Societies. The main purpose is to provide an opportunity for Academicians to meet each other and to contribute to the discussion about the future strategy for the Academy of Social Sciences. The Council is aware that members do not always feel able to travel to events in London and see the regional meetings as an important development towards a more inclusive approach to strategic development.
John Gardner, the Academy of Social Sciences Deputy Chair for Northern Ireland has offered to host the first of the regional meetings at Queens University, Belfast on Monday 6 November. The meeting will start with a buffet lunch at 12.30. Caroline Bucklow, the Executive Secretary, will present our current strategic thinking about the future direction of the Academy of Social Sciences and this will be followed by an opportunity to contribute ideas about how you would like to see the Academy of Social Sciences move forward.
Further details will be available shortly but to help with planning, I would be very grateful if you could let me know as soon as possible whether you would like to attend this event.
With Best Wishes
Dr Caroline Bucklow
Executive Secretary
