Yes, Peter, this one - for me anyway - really creates a great intersection
between the imperial power and audacity of the incised large Roman Types
(spelling out a meaningless language) as the letters curve and break off
into shadow around the armaments and uniforms of the helmeted soldiers -
frozen and permanently engaged in battle as they appear to be.
A strong comment on the time (Rumsfeld's 'imperium oblige' comes to mind).
Which makes me wonder. The aspect of this Christian Crusader madness in the
Mid-East causes me to ask you if you have ever considered (if not already)
exploring Gothic typefaces (the one used by Guttenberg for the Bible, for
the Nuremberg Chronicle with its great, popular depictions of the
Apocalypse, etc.). Gothic types, as you probably know, were the pro-forma
Biblical face before the emergence of Renaissance Roman typefaces (Aldus and
Jenson in the making of books and public signage?? The use of Gothic faces
might bring up the implications of some interesting 14th and 15th century
Christian demons for your work that haven't quite been buried - apparently.
Tread carefully!
Just an idea,
