Three museums across Wales are to share £55,000 from the Welsh Assembly
Government. The grants have been awarded under the Cyfoeth Cymru Gyfan -

taking exhibits on loan from the National Museum Wales - Amgueddfa Cymru
collections, as well as delivering exhibitions and services from NMW at a
local level.
Llandudno Museum has been awarded £16,000 for the production of permanent
displays about the Llandudno Field Club collections and Kendrick's Cave
collection, using local material and items from the Amgueddfa Cymru -
National Museum Wales collections.
Abergavenny Museum will get £29,000 for improvements to security and
environment of gallery to enable exhibition of work by and relating to Eric
Gill.
And Scolton Manor Museum, Haverfordwest has been awarded £10,000 for the
development of a major temporary exhibition for 2007 'The Tregwynt Hoard:
Coins, Cromwell and Cavaliers'. A curriculum linked educational resource
will also be developed.
Culture Minister Alun Pugh said: "Sharing Treasures gives the opportunity
for people to see and enjoy items from our national collections, wherever
they are in Wales. Our national collections belong to everyone, so I'm
pleased to see that as many people as possible will have the opportunity to

Fine Art at Wrexham County Borough Museum
Wrexham Heritage Services have teamed up with locally based art historian,
Paul Hernon, to stage the first fine art exhibition in Wrexham since 1876.
The exhibition displays a selection aquatints and paintings by Paul Sandby
on loan from major British museums and art galleries and displayed together
for the first time in the land that inspired them. The artworks on display
were all inspired by Sandby's 1771 tour of North Wales in the company of his
sponsor and local Welsh landowner, Sir Watkin Williams Wynn.
The loans were made possible by recent improvements to the temporary
exhibition gallery at Wrexham County Borough Museum including new lighting
and security improvements funded by CyMAL (through the Sharing Treasures
scheme) and Wrexham County Borough Council. Wrexham County Borough Council
also paid for the installation of a gallery environmental control system so
that the museum met the standards required by the lending institutions.
A teacher's pack has been specially created for the exhibition and a series
of creativity and literacy workshops are on offer for KS1 & KS2 pupils.

For more information contact Jonathan Gammond 01978 317 970
Admission is free. The exhibition is on show until November 4th.

14. NEWS - SCOTLAND

The way forward for museums' workforce
A new strategy to promote the development of skills among the 11,000 staff
and volunteers who run Scotland's museums and galleries has been launched by
the Scottish Museums Council (SMC).
SMC aims to establish a learning culture and ensure that investment in
people is regarded as a priority rather than an unnecessary expense. A
36-point action plan has been devised so that future progress can be
measured.

15. NEWS - UK

Olympics and Heritage: how will we connect?
Statistics from previous Games demonstrate how hosting the Olympics boosts
the national economy. Regional economies benefit as Queensland, Australia
did to the tune of £6m from the UK training camp for the Sydney Games. 4bn
viewers worldwide, no doubt taking in the historic backdrop already used to
promote the UK bid, will enhance the visitor economy by up to £2bn through
Games-related tourism and Games-motivated tourism over a 7 - 10 year period.
