Dear Colleague
Conservation meeting at the Drwm, National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, 2
October 2006
I am writing to invite you to a meeting that is being arranged at the
National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, on Monday 2 October 2006, details of
which are attached. The situation of conservation in Wales has changed in
recent years with the advent of CyMAL and ICON, the Institute of
Conservation.
Conservation meetings such as Conservation Matters are arranged by
organisations in the museums sector such as the National Museum Wales and
the Federation of Museums in Wales. From 1995-2004 conservation training
meetings for the libraries and archives sector were arranged by the
Conservation Group of the Wales Region of the Society of Archivists and the
LISC(Wales) Conservation Group (details are enclosed). The LISC(W) Group
came to an end in 2004 and the future role of CILIP and the Society of
Archivists in promoting conservation has been under consideration since ICON
became established.
The meeting at the National Library is partly a training meeting for those
involved with the care of collections, and partly an opportunity, in the
afternoon, for book and paper conservators and others to discuss the way
forward for this aspect of conservation training in Wales. Many of those who
supported the meetings arranged by the Society of Archivists and LISC(W) may
welcome further development opportunities. The meeting will also be able to
discuss other possibilities for collaboration now that ICON and CyMAL exist.
If you feel this is relevant to you I do hope you and your colleagues will
be able to attend the meeting. If you intend to come I would be grateful if
you would let me know by e-mail by 25 September 2006.
Yours sincerely
Iwan Jones
