Dear List
It was used in an iron foundry at Stockton-on-Tees until about 1979; that's the rather tenuous mining connection. It was an overhead crane of 20 tons capacity and a span of 39 feet, running the length of one of the shops, with the vertical boiler, operator, engines and hoisting mechanism all mounted on the wheeled unit, or 'crab,' which was able to reach any part of the shop floor. It was made about 1900 by Booth & Brothers of Rodley, Leeds.
Now preserved at Preston Hall Museum near Stockton (but not on display) my question is simply does anyone know of another preserved overhead steam crane?
Simon.
