Salary Range: Circa £23,000
You will be part of an ESRC/MRC funded New Dynamics of Ageing Research Programme on `Optimising quality sleep among older people in the community and care homes¿. This multi-disciplinary research involves partners in four institutions (Surrey, Loughborough, Bath and Kings College, London), led by the Centre for Research on Ageing and Gender (CRAG) at Surrey.
You will undertake research in care homes and conduct qualitative research identifying what influences the quality and management of sleep among older residents in care homes. This will involve spending periods of time observing in the care home and undertaking in-depth interviews with care home staff and residents. The aim will be to examine diverse issues relating to sleep and routines for managing residents¿ sleep in order to establish attitudes and understanding of sleep behaviour and to gain an insight into the use of sleep medication in care homes.
You would be expected to be able to conduct quantitative and qualitative research involving vulnerable older people and have a good understanding of older people living in care homes.
This appointment is initially for 30 months. Because of the nature of the research the successful candidate will need to undergo a CRB Enhanced Disclosure.
