Communicating Effectively

This workshop is aimed at anyone who uses a range of communication methods during their working day.
At the end of this session you will be able to:
1. Identify the barriers that cause communication to break down
2. Explore how to choose the appropriate method of communication
3. Develop a code of good practice for several different methods of communication
4. Participate effectively in meetings

- Analysing your role and the part communication plays within it
- Identifying the main methods of communication used at work
- Good practice when using:
- Face to face communication
- E-mail
- Other written forms of communication
- Telephone
- Effective participation at meetings

Advanced Time Management

This workshop is aimed at staff who have already undertaken some basic time management training and would like to develop their skills further. The course will give delegates the opportunity to look at how they currently use their time and identify areas for development.
The course will cover:
- Having a clear vision
- Activity logs
- knowing where you focus attention
- setting priorities
- Examining why a lot of time management advice doesn't work
- Exploring the balance between pro-active and reactive actions
- Knowing when to say no
- Tackling resistance
- Managing productive meetings
- effective agenda setting and management
- how to chair and participate in meetings that produce results

Both courses will be delivered by the highly popular trainer Deborah Dalley. Deborah Dalley has been working as a freelance consultant for over 15 years, primarily within the public sector. Her client organisations range over a number of universities, colleges, libraries, NHS trusts, magistrates` courts and police forces. Deborah has a keen interest in many areas of behavioural training including interpersonal skill development, assertiveness, emotional intelligence and management training. She believes that people learn more effectively if they are involved in the process and her sessions are therefore highly participative and enjoyable!
