Investigator
(Archaeological Survey and Investigation Team)
c. £23,740 per annum Based in York
We are looking for an archaeologist, preferably with significant experience in field survey. Often participating in
multi-disciplinary projects, you will take part in analytical field surveys and other forms of non-invasive
archaeological and historical investigation, contributing to research and standard setting at local, regional and
national levels. Investigating sites, monuments and landscapes, you will develop an expertise in interpreting,
recording and analysing field evidence, and many other sources of information, to arrive at a holistic understanding
of historic landscapes. The presentation and dissemination of results will form a key part of your role, including the
production of English Heritage Research Department reports and a range of other publications. You will also
deliver talks, presentations and training courses.
Educated to degree level and/or with substantial experience in a relevant subject, you will have a broad and up to
date knowledge of archaeology and significant fieldwork experience. You will have excellent writing skills
(we welcome submission of examples of your written work), and will be confident in using a range of software
packages. Good communication skills, a capacity to self-manage and the ability to work in small teams are essential.
You will be required to travel extensively, particularly in northern England, for which you will need a valid driving
licence. You will also be required to stay away overnight on some occasions. Ref: C/015/06

Trainee Investigator
(Archaeological Survey and Investigation Team)
c. £18,000 per annum pro rata Based in Cambridge
Fixed-term until 31 March 2008
We are looking for a committed archaeologist, preferably with some experience of survey techniques. This period
appointment will offer training in analytical landscape survey and a range of different technical survey
methodologies, including GPS training will also be given in data-handling with various software packages. Your
training will form part of multi-disciplinary projects, contributing to research and standard setting at a national and
international level.
Educated to degree level and/or with substantial experience in a relevant subject, you will have current all round
knowledge of archaeology, combined with fieldwork experience. Extensive travel will be required, for which you will
need a valid driving licence. You will also be required to stay away overnight on some occasions. Ref: F/016/06
