1) GROUNDWATER EDUCATION REVIEW NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE
The review of groundwater education in schools commissioned by the UK
Groundwater Forum can now be downloaded from the Forum website. Go to
http://www.groundwateruk.org/html/education1.htm
The review has emphasized the poor coverage of groundwater, and indeed
water
resources in general, in the relevant National Curricula and in GSCE and
A-level specifications. The Forum plans to take action to address this
situation by lobbying the curriculum authorities in the UK, working with
textbook publishers and creating continuing professional development
opportunities for teachers.
Please get in touch with us at [log in to unmask] if you have
suggestions regarding these or other proposals or would like to be
involved in
these initiatives. We are currently looking for funding to implement our
education strategy.
2) 'HISTORY OF HYDROGEOLOGY' ARTICLE ADDED TO WEBSITE
An article on the history of hydrogeology in Britain has been added to
the
Forum's web site within the Groundwater in Depth section. This has been
written by John Mather and is a very enjoyable summary of the book on
200
Years of British Hydrogeology published by the Geological Society. To
read the
article, go to http://www.groundwateruk.org/html/depth1.htm
3) GROUNDWATER JOB MARKET SURVEY
The Groundwater Forum is conducting a review of the current state of the
UK
groundwater job market, and is mailing a questionnaire to employers in
order
to gather information for the review. As a recipient of the Forum
e-news, some
of you will have received a copy of the questionnaire. Thank you to
those who
have already sent in their responses.
4) STUDENT PROJECTS REQUIRED - REQUEST FOR DETAILS
The Groundwater Forum periodically receives e-mails from students
undertaking
groundwater-related MSc courses, asking about industry contacts to
approach
for work placements or MSc projects. We are setting up a list of
organisations
interested in working with MSc students. If you would like to be
included in
this list, please email us at [log in to unmask] with contact
details
for the student.
