Hello all,
Just ten days until the conference begins...
I have a request to make to people who are coming to the conference.
As you may be aware from the provisional schedule, we have kept a relatively
unstructured hour at the end of each day to talk together about issues
raised during the conference. This is instead of an extra day on action,
which was discussed at Newcastle, but many felt that they could not commit
to 3 days for the conference. We are aware that a couple of hours is not
very long, so would like to try to make the best use of the time - so not
spending all of it deciding what to talk about. While we have some
structures in place to enable people to generate & share ideas for
discussion on the day, we would also like to hear any particular ideas
before hand.
I am aware that topics have come up in discussion on the list, and wondered
if people coming to the conference wanted to use the space to discuss the
following, or suggest alternatives. In brief (and in haste!) some of the
ideas we already have are:
Collective action in relation to global events, eg:
What can Community Psychologists do in response to
international conflicts?
What can Community Psychologists do to resist the use of
psychological knowledge in torture?
Organisational issues:
How should we be organising ourselves? eg - BPS section,
etc...
I'm not able to get involved in much discussion on the list at the moment
(due to various other demands...), but would be happy to collect ideas, if
you send them straight to me, or respond to this email to the list, so that
I can tell it's about this.
And we still have places, if you're quick...
Wendy
