As became apparent at ALT-C 2006, Web 2.0 is a hot topic… If you're
working on a project that utilises Web 2.0 technologies and have a story
to tell or even if you just have a question, comment, idea or suggestion,
JISC TechWatch would be glad to hear from you (but please don't expect an

5. Invitations to tender
5.1 Becta
… invitation to tender for a 6-month piece of work evaluating up to 8
(identified) e-portfolio projects across a range of sectors and audiences
and demonstrating very different approaches to supporting learning. For

5.2 JISC e-Learning Programme: Framework and Tools Strand
… invites proposals to develop software toolkits and demonstrators that
align with the strategic aims of the JISC/DEST e-Framework for Education
and Research.
a) DEVELOP A TOOLKIT - to develop web services APIs for existing
applications along with software development kits (SDKs) that enable
developers to use the web services APIs in one or more popular
programming languages.
- OR -
b) DEVELOP A DEMONSTRATOR - to develop applications or services that
consume documents from web services APIs and/or submit documents to web
service APIs.
As a general guideline it is anticipated that most projects will be
awarded funding of between £30,000 and £40,000 depending on the extent
and complexity of the work involved. The deadline for proposals is 1300
on Monday 16 October 2006.

5.3 AHRC, JISC and EPSRC e-Science Research Grants (reminder)
… inviting applications for research project grants under the e-Science
Research Grants scheme. The call will support a portfolio of research
projects up to a maximum of 48 months in duration, and for between
£20,000 and £400,000 (fEC). Closing date for the receipt of applications:
4pm on 2 November 2006 .

5.4 JISC's second Capital Programme Circular
… will be issued on 29 September, with calls in the areas of e-Learning,
e-Infrastructure, Virtual Research Environments, Repositories and
Preservation, and Users and Innovation. This £15m of project funding for
ICT research and development across higher and further education in
England and Wales includes a significant amount available for “repository
start-up and enhancement” - up to £2.5m. Further information about the
