I think Foucault actually said that all ideas are dangerous....and that
power is relational, so there is always the possibility of resistance. The
medical gaze is just one idea that exercises power....it is through
naturalizing ways of thinking that bio-medicine can hide its mechanisms of
power and through forums such as this those naturalizations can be exposed
as entirely 'un-natural' ...that is constructed for a purpose. This is not
to say however, that our response to these mechanisms of power are any less
dangerous or don't attempt to naturalize their mechanisms as well...what is
needed is constant critical attention to the discourses that are created to
surround people and an awareness that every person coming to the
relationship has an agenda...
