The Ohio State University Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Coordinator's Office and the Division of Occupational Therapy are
co-hosting a one-day seminar to address the issue of how to help
employees with disabilities increase their success in the workplace. A
primary focus will be accommodations for social, behavioral, and mental
health issues.
This seminar will help service providers such as job coaches, counselors
and social workers, rehabilitation counselors, disability case managers,
occupational therapists, and human resource specialists to better
understand the unique challenges facing individuals with psychiatric
disabilities in the work environment.
Speakers from a variety of disciplines will provide practical
information on working with clients to achieve success in the workplace.
In this seminar, participants will:
* Improve their understanding of the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) as it applies in practice to employees with mental illness;
* Improve their knowledge of appropriate human resource and legal
interventions with employees who have a mental illness;
* Learn to manage workplace dilemmas and contextual issues common
to employees with mental illness;
* Participate in a case study to demonstrate how to use these
ideas to create success stories for employees with mental illness;
* Participate in a question and answer period with a panel of
experts.
This is a 6 hour CEU course pending approval for occupational
therapists, counselors and social workers, certified disability
management specialists, certified rehabilitation counselors, certified
