Dear Colleague,
Jon Duke and I have been commissioned by the JISC to carry out an impact
analysis of the eLib programme in a study that is planned to be
completed by the end of October and, as a member of ALT, it's possible
that you could help us.
We are looking at the long-term effects of eLib, now that the outcomes
and lessons of the programme are expected to have essentially taken full
effect. We are also seeking evidence for changes of culture in HE
libraries, and indeed elsewhere in Higher Education, that were caused or
accelerated by eLib as well as evidence for any savings in costs or time
that it brought about.
We are collecting views and data from the UK and abroad to contribute to
this understanding.
If you have any views on the impact of eLib, we would be most interested
to hear from you, after which we would either seek a phone call with
you, or ask for your comments in an email.
As an aide mémoire, the strands within eLib that produced results
relevant to our work are:
a) Electronic document delivery
b) Electronic storage of books and journals (digitisation)
c) Electronic journals
d) On-demand publishing and the electronic book
e) Awareness and training
f) Navigational tools (Access to network resources)
g) Pre-prints and grey literature
h) Electronic short loans
i) Images
j) Hybrid libraries
k) Large scale resource discovery (Clumps)
l) Digital Preservation
m) Quality assurance in the electronic environment
n) Migrating eLib projects into services
If it helps, some more information about our study is available at
http://dukeandjordan.co.uk/currworkelibimpact.htm
where there is a more detailed description of our process.
I do look forward to hearing from you.
Andy Jordan
