Actually just the opposite, jWalker. I was thinking of having a whip-round
among My Three Authors (two of whom have already contacted me backchannel in
the wake of my post, and the other, totally coincidentally (and perhaps
fortunately as he's not on this list -- or several others) telephoned me
seconds after I sent the post, to ameliorate the cost of the tickets I've
bought.
(We discussed, inter alia, the nature of "level accent" in John Berryman.
This is currently being played-out on New Poetry, if anyone here is on that
list too. I have to say that I think the Birk is talking a load of utter
bollocks here, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone agrees with him. If
they can work out what he meant in his original post to New Poetry. I think
I do now -- understand, but not agree -- but I had to ask him to explain
himself at least five times, and usually I can get what dave's on about
quicker than that.)

Yeah, yeah, you'll be lucky. As things are, they prolly wouldn't allow you
into the country.
> you know I love your work, always have.
The sanctimonious insincerity of those words is palpable even across the
cyberwaves, thus suggesting that email does *not always demolish tone.
A Publishing Rodent
(Who is off to brood over the Curious Fact that the changes in the Royal
Mail pricing structure actually *benefit poets submiting material to print
journals. Odd [and counterintuitve] that. No doubt David Cameron will
argue that this is a typical Brown ploy, Stealth Support For The Arts.
Oh, in case anyone hasn't worked this out yet, and it took me long enough
god knows, the new Royal Mail Rules allow a C5 size envelope [suitable for
holding sheets of A4 folded once] to be sent with ONE first class stamp as
before, BUT the weight limit has been raised from 60gms to 100gms.
Anything above the C5 size comes into the higher price range.
Who said size doesn't matter?)
