Hanfod Hanes : I'r Gymru fydd / History Matters : pass it on

What is Hanfod Hanes/History Matters?

"Hanfod Hanes i'r Gymru fydd"/ "History matters -pass it on" is a public
project to raise awareness and support for Welsh Heritage. Led by the
National Trust in Wales in partnership with Cadw, Amgueddfa Cymru -National
Museums Wales and Heritage Lottery Fund it will provide opportunities to
celebrate the diverse heritage and culture of Wales and will increase our
understanding of what people value about their history and what they want to
pass on to future generations.

The celebration will run from July to the end of October and will involve
people expressing their support in a number of ways, including wearing a
badge, filling out postcards, logging on to a dedicated website to show how
they care about history, and by participating in various Hanfod
Hanes/History Matters events. The celebration will culminate in an
evaluation period which will analyse the feedback we have received through
postcards and surveys, celebrity endorsements and website hits. This
evaluation will be used to draw out Heritage themes and will allow us to
look at shifting trends in the importance of History and how this affects
our perception, management and protection of the Historic Environment in its
entirety.

The benefits

For us to successfully maximise involvement of people across Wales in the
celebration we want to extend an invitation to other organisations and
Groups in helping us to raise awareness of why Hanfod Hanes/History Matters
and why people's views are so important, as it is those groups and
organisations that work with local communities on the ground that will add
value and strength to the celebration. The goal is to simply increase
people's consciousness of how much history and heritage play a valuable part
in their daily lives and you too can be part of this. We would like as many
people as possible to promote the fact that the historic environment is much
more than just a great day out. It is all around us and relevant to our
daily lives in so many different ways. Our history helps us to understand
who we are and also where we've come from -Individually and as a Welsh
nation. It provides inspiration for new ideas and solutions to the problems
we face today including opportunities to learn from past mistakes. Many
public benefits flow from looking after our Welsh heritage -learning, a
sense of identity, spiritual well being, economic regeneration and community
cohesion.

How you can get involved?

There are lots of ways that your organisation or group can get involved
including:

	*	telling us why history is important to you and what you
would pass on to future generations - through response mechanisms such as
postcards, visitor comment books and feedback forms available at National
Trust properties, Cadw sites and National Museum sites throughout Wales or
logging on to our website at www.historymatterswales.org.uk
<http://www.historymatterswales.org.uk> or www.hanfodhanes.org.uk
<http://www.hanfodhanes.org.uk>

	*	engaging existing and new audiences in Wales - through new
History Matters events and adding value to currently planned events at your
properties, sites and museums across Wales.

	*	Wearing a badge to show that History Matters to you and
handing these to visitors at your property, site or Museum

	*	Branding your own existing events as History Matters or
planning new ones especially to support the celebration.

	*	Developing dedicated History Matters activities,
volunteering or learning initiatives

	*	By agreeing to promote the HH/HM celebration through your PR
work, through newsletters and other media opportunities

What we can offer to you

We can provide you with the necessary promotional materials you will need to
stage a successful event including postcards, badge dispensers and posters
as well as our special Hanfod Hanes /History Matters logos.

Your participation in History Matters will be promoted centrally through a
national publicity drive including being invited as a supporter to a special
evaluation event to be held in the New Year.

You will also be able to use the campaign's website to publicise any related
event and your group or organisations work.
