Dear Frank,
if you just want national summary figures, the best source is probably
"From Pauperism to Poverty" by Karel Williams. A table of national
expenditure totals up to 1853 can also be found in an appendix to the
"History of the English Poor Law" by George Nicholls (volume 2).
From Nicholls: "Total expenditure for the relief and maintenance of the
poor"
1850 £5,395,022
1851 £4,962,704
1852 £4,897,685
If it's figures for a specific union, let me know what you need.
All best wishes,
Peter Higginbotham
