QUANTIFYING DIVERSITY: MESUR AMRYWIAETH
DIWEDDARIAD

Yn dilyn cyfweliadau ar 31 Gorffennaf, mae CyMAL wedi rhoi’r contract
ymchwil ar gyfer Mesur Amrywiaeth i Carolyn Carter o CJC Consultancy. Mae
Carolyn yn gweithio yng Ngwlad yr Haf, ond mae ganddi brofiad blaenorol o
weithio gyda llyfrgelloedd yn ne Cymru. Mae ganddi gefndir cadarn ym maes
ymchwil cydraddoldebau yn y sector amgueddfeydd, archifau a llyfrgelloedd
ac mae CyMAL yn edrych ymlaen at weithio gyda hi.

Bydd Carolyn yn datblygu holiaduron ymchwil ar gyfer yr ymchwiliad traws-
barth a fydd yn casglu data am gydraddoldeb ac amrywiaeth yn amgueddfeydd,
archifau a llyfrgelloedd lleol Cymru.

Bydd yr holiaduron wedi’u cynllunio i gasglu data’n ymwneud â gweithwyr
cyflogedig/gwirfoddolwyr, casgliadau, gwasanaethau a digwyddiadau
defnyddwyr a gweithdrefnau monitro defnyddwyr. Er ein bod yn cydnabod bod
pobl yn amrywio mewn ffyrdd eraill hefyd, bydd y prosiect ymchwil hwn yn
casglu data am grwpiau yn ôl oed, anabledd, rhyw, grwpiau lleiafrifoedd
ethnig, crefydd/cred, cyfeiriadedd rhywiol a’r Gymraeg.

Ar ôl i’r holiaduron gael eu drafftio, byddant yn cael eu cymeradwyo gan
grwp cyfeirio’r prosiect (sy’n cynnwys cynrychiolwyr sector ac amrywiaeth)
cyn y gofynnir i amgueddfeydd, archifau a llyfrgelloedd eu cwblhau.

Bydd canlyniadau’r gwaith ymchwil yn darparu data llinell sylfaen
hollbwysig i CyMAL a bydd yr adroddiad Mesur Amrywiaeth – a gwblheir
ddechrau 2007 – yn nodi meysydd blaenoriaeth ar gyfer gwaith datblygu.
Bydd hyn yn galluogi CyMAL i gynorthwyo amgueddfeydd, archifau a
llyfrgelloedd i fynd i’r afael â materion cydraddoldeb ac amrywiaeth yn eu
cymunedau lleol.

Bydd gwasanaethau’n derbyn holiaduron ganol mis Hydref i’w cwblhau erbyn
canol mis Tachwedd, ond bydd Carolyn yn cysylltu ag amgueddfeydd, archifau
a llyfrgelloedd ym mis Medi gyntaf – felly cadwch lygad am ragor o
wybodaeth fydd ar gael yn fuan.

QUANTIFYING DIVERSITY: MESUR AMRYWIAETH
UPDATE

Following interviews on 31 July, CyMAL has awarded the research contract
for Quantifying Diversity to Carolyn Carter of CJC Consultancy. Carolyn is
based in Somerset but has previous experience working with libraries in
south Wales. She has a strong background in conducting equalities research
in the museum, archive and library sector and CyMAL looks forward to
working with her.

Carolyn will develop research questionnaires for this innovative cross-
domain research which will capture data on equality and diversity in the
local museums, archives and libraries of Wales.

The questionnaires will be designed to capture data relating to
employees/volunteers, collections, user services and events and user
monitoring procedures. Although we recognise that people are diverse in
other ways too, this research project will gather data relating to groups
defined by age, disability, gender, minority ethnic groups,
religion/belief, sexual orientation and Welsh language.

Once questionnaires have been drafted, they will be approved by the project
reference group (which consists of sector and diversity representatives)
before museums, archives and libraries are asked to complete them.

The results of the research will provide CyMAL with critical baseline data
and the Quantifying Diversity report - which will be completed in the early
part of 2007 - will identify priority areas for development work. This
will enable CyMAL to help museums, archives and libraries to address issues
of equality and diversity with regard to their local communities.

Services will receive questionnaires in mid October for completion by mid-
November but Carolyn will be making initial contact with museums, archives
and libraries in September - so look out for more information coming soon.
