Lecturer in German
The Department of German, rated 5* for research in the last two RAEs,
invites applications for the post of Lecturer in German, beginning on 1
January 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful applicant will already have, or will show the potential
to develop, a track record of research and teaching, commensurate with
the level of appointment, in the field of German linguistics. He or she
will also have expertise in the field of German as a foreign language
(DAF).
The appointment will be made on the Lecturer A/B scale, currently,
£25,083 to £28,767 and £29,694 to £38,068 per annum (depending on
qualifications and experience), plus £2,323 London Allowance per annum.

The Post
The person appointed will already have, or will show the potential to
develop, a track record of high-quality research and teaching in German
linguistics, preferably in one or more of the following fields:
sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, word formation, syntax. He or she
will have further expertise in the field of German as a foreign
language (DaF). It is expected that the successful candidate will
complement existing research strengths in linguistics (in particular
those of Professor David Yeandle) and collaborate with colleagues in
the Department of German, the School?s interdisciplinary programme in
Linguistics, and the Centre for Computing in the Humanities (CCH). The
appointee will also be expected to make an appropriate contribution to
the administrative tasks of the German Department and the School of
Humanities. It is hoped that the person appointed will build on the
Department?s existing research strengths and, in due course and in the
light of the appointee?s own specialism(s) and research interests, will
show leadership in setting new directions and establishing new
collaborations with colleagues inside and outside the College.
