I am posting this email for a colleague. Please feel free to contact
him directly at the email below.
My name is Alex Verbeck and I graduated from Reed in 2005 with a degree
in history. I'm currently employed at Metropolitan Public Defenders in
Portland in the Special Courts section, and specifically I'm the legal
assistant in charge of civil commitments in Multnomah County. My boss is
currently working on a book describing the state of affairs in mental
health law, and has asked me to do some research into Disability Theory,
especially as it pertains to sanism, stigma theories, and therapeutic
jurisprudence. I'm wondering if it would be possible for you to point
me towards some good sources, so that I can give a decent representation
of the salient characteristics of the field. From what little I know, it
seems to be a fairly young and fairly contentious field, so I hope to be
careful not to mis-characterize it.
Thank you in advance for any help you're able to offer me.
Sincerely,
Alex Verbeck
