This is an advert for anyone out there keen to pursue PhD research, possibly
developing one of the Cycling & the Social Sciences themes from the network.
Our department is keen to get PhD students in, and for me to supervise some.
As cycling is a major interest of mine (e.g. my PhD research), I would
really like to get a PhD student studying a relevant cycling topic area.
Although within a Civil & Building Engineering Department, I am a social
scientist by training like most of my colleagues within the Transport
Studies Group.
This request is part of a wider invitation for up to 15 doctoral research
studentships in the 5* rated Department of Civil and Building Engineering,
leading to the award of PhD degrees (see www.jobs.ac.uk advertisement
14-8-06 where I have a couple of broad topics). Fees will be paid at the
UK/EU student rate, in addition to a tax free stipend for living expenses
(£10,500 per year).
Applicants should have a minimum of a 2.1 honours degree (or equivalent) in
a relevant discipline. Further information on the Transport Studies Group
is available at
http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/cv/research/groups/transport/index.html.
For further information, feel free to contact me, details below.
Applicants should complete the standard PhD application form available from
http://www.lboro.ac.uk/prospectus/pg/apply/index.html and submit with
supporting documents to: Ms Helen Newbold, Research Administrator,
Department of Civil and Building Engineering, Loughborough University,

Closing date: 8th September 2006
