Hello Alison
I'm afraid I will not be able to make the meeting on the 11th, as I
have a meeting arranged at Bolton University which involves several
others and would be difficult to move. I am interested though if there
are further developments
best wishes
Sally

The Art, Design, Media Subject Centre is part of the Diploma
Development Partnership (DDP) for the Creative and Media Skills
Diploma. The new Diploma will be available to pupils as an
alternative to GCSEs and A levels. Although it is intended to have a
more applied orientation than traditional 14-19 qualifications, it is
not intended to be an occupational course of study leading directly
to employment in creative industry activities where people
undertaking those roles will normally be graduates from higher
education. It is, however, intended to serve as an entry-level
qualification to undergraduate programmes which may lead to work
within creative and media sectors or to work in other sectors where
creativity and media skills are applicable
The Sector Skills Councils most closely associated with the creative
industries, led by Skillset, the sector skills council for the audio
visual industries, have been tasked with delivering the framework and
curriculum and the Subject Centre has been advising the DDP on
aspects of its design that will relate to higher education including,
in particular, learning that relates to learning-in-practice,
reflective thinking and preparation of portfolios for admission to HE
courses.
The timetable set by the Department for Education and Skills is very
tight and the DDP has to meet a delivery deadline at the end of
September 2006. The DDP is keen to have wider input from higher
education and has asked the Subject Centre if we can assist in this
process. The DDP has agreed to host a meeting, facilitated by the
Subject Centre on Monday 11 September 2006. The meeting will be at a
London venue (to be confirmed), it will start at 11.00 am and end by
4.00 pm. Lunch will be provided. We are hoping that we can attract
enough colleagues to represent views from the wide range of subjects
that are likely to receive applications from diplomates from 2013. It
will be some time before diplomates are eligible for entry to Higher
Education Institutions and there will be opportunities for schools to
shape the diploma based on continuous feedback and monitoring. It is
important that colleagues in HE have an opportunity to discuss the
framework and curriculum to identify to the DDP any potential
problems early in the process.
If you are able to assist us in this process by attending the 11
September meeting, please complete the attendance form accessible
from our website: http://www.brighton.ac.uk/adm-hea/projects/adm-
projects/ddp.htm and send it by fax or post to:
