"best" is certainly not the word I would use since they describe
something which has little relation to what we've deployed ... despite
the name change, what we've ended up with is not glite as it was
described two years ago. There isn't really any description of an
architecture, and as far as I can determine no intention to produce one.
I made an attempt to look for architecture-related documents and this
page summarises what I found:

but you probably won't find any more than you already know. I have also
volunteered to try to extract a simple description of the WMS
architecture from the existing documents but I haven't yet tried it.
Apart from that, R-GMA has good stand-alone documentation, but the other
areas (BDII, data management, security) generally don't.
