It does not matter which version of Postgresql you use but I recommend
either postgresql 8.0 or 8.1. 8.0.X is available in the CERN apt
repository, but 8.1 does auto vaccuming so if the db performance
degradation over time does occur with 8.0 you must "vacuum" the
database.
