You need to move to NZ.
Our Professional development allowance is currently $8000 (so about 3500 pounds) and likely to go up with our current contract negoiations + 6 weeks Annual leave and 2 weeks study leave.
cheers

Subject: Study Leave Budgets
We have recently been having a number of discussions with our Trust about funding for study leave. Earlier this year they took a position that only 50% of study leave invoices would be repaid/granted (ie half the money not half the requests). This caused some concerns, but now they have devolved study leave funding to local CMTs/Business Units and the money given is equivalent to £453 per consultant/staff grade member of staff. The Trust line is, this is enough money for us to give you to fund your study leave requirements, any extra you want can be funded by efficiency savings etc.
Personally I think it is some what difficult to achieve the CMT requirements for external points on such a budget with the current pricing of courses. We have calculated an average of about £150 a day for courses from the usual fliers we have received and that is before any travel/accommodation costs.
I do think the pricing of courses has got out of hand and I'm not sure they provide value for money. I remember Danny used to be unhappy about the cost of these things when they were held in unnecessarily lavish surroundings.
What do others think? There is, of course, the argument that we should fund all of this ourselves out of our considerable salaries. Please feel free to discuss this as well!

P.S. Our nursing staff budget for study leave is about £30 a head!
