The "Ward Round " works well if the nurse in charge is interested and
the doctor who has seen the patient is there. Going round the department
seeing all the patients concentrates the rest of the team on the
important things. But it is difficult to do if the department is busy
because everyone feels they would be better doing something "useful"
and the trick is to persuade them that your input is just that.
I agree that we really do not need more doctors or ENPs at the moment
but we do need a better work flow , which is what the "20 patients/hour"
is about. Maybe the recent BMJ article is right and we need more
managers, to make that happen?
Or better managers.
