Hi Greig.
You're right; Graeme is of course doing a monumental superhero
effort for DPM (which I have also mentioned in all my quarterlies).
I was thinking for the funded effort - both Owen and Graeme are
helping support, and others at RAL (e.g. Shaun and Chris) are
helping to support the RAL SRM. This is great, and allows us
to do more. The unfunded efforts are a large part of why GridPP
storage has been a success, also the significant work that some
sites have put in. I have also mentioned this in my QRs.
However, it's when we come to rely and depend on the unfunded
efforts to meet the targets that we are funded to meet, that
alarm bells start to - if not ring, then at least they are
clearing their throats, ready to say "r.." We have had the
question before; this time it is prompted by Owen's leaving.
You are right, we need to ensure sites are happy (and the phone
conf is the place to say so, sites). But we also need to ensure
that you (and Graeme) is (are) happy providing (and able to provide)
the level of support that you are providing. You may be genuine
superheroes and all that, but even superheroes have limitations...
I need to get the advert for Owen II out ...
Thanks,

Hi Jens,
You should state that it's not just me supporting Tier-2's, Graeme is
doing a lot of stuff for DPM.
Your other points remain valid; there is a lot of juggling of work between
responding directly to issues raised on the list and other forms of
support like release testing, reporting bugs, documentation, transfer
tests, accounting and monitoring. That being said, every other Grid job
has a lot of juggling to do as well. We need to make sure that the sites
are happy with the weightings that we are currently giving to each of
these support "balls".
Cheers,
Greig
