Dear all
interesting debate - i've a feeling that charging for training is less
common amongst the LHP practitioners than it is amongst so-called white
magicians - a paradox i suppose. I think the presumption should be that no
payment changes hands although there is an obligation to 'give something
back' - ie teach the next generation.
Most of the groups i've been involved with wouldn't really agree with any
form of fees - Typhonian, AMOOKOS and Wiccan. It probably is too idealistic
a position - as everyone has to live.
Some groups play on the dynamic of the ritual fee thing - used when reading
tarot etc. But to charge an enormous amount so as to test the committment
seems wrong to me. 400 pounds seems way too much - almost profiteering - and
afterall in these ecologically challenged times what value is there in
flying people to UK - sounds like a fiddle? We could do with some quality
control or even some intelligent reviewing of courses to safeguards the
consumer - imo.
Going to a wiccan circle can be expensive as everyone brings flowers, food
and wine (although some are more stingy than others :). Many of the best
covens give their initiates all kinds of equipment.
At initiations it is often polite to give some form of gift to the
initiator.
Initiation should be non returnable - so those systems whereby your grade
lapses with your standing order seem a bit strange to me.
'love and do what you will'

PS didn't Gurjieff say 'if you teach people for free they end up complaining
you've shortchanged them.' or words to that effect
